Once much into the breach! The Sketch Collab is back for it's 6th (and possibly final) year!

Check out the previous collabs: 2007, 2008(Daily 3rd), 2009 (Daily 4th), 2010 (Daily 1st) and 2011 (Daily 4th).

Your aim is to create a short animation showing what it would look like if the doodles on your page started moving. It should look like it was done with pencil, so grey rather than black is encouraged.

RULES

1. NO PORN/ SEXUAL CONTENT!!!!
2. Obey the specifications given.
3. You can use your own sounds, but I'm adding music, so don't make sound vital.
4. No sprites
5. Sticks are allowed
6. Must be FBF - some tweening can be done,but keep it to a minimum
7. Dont make rubbish parts
8. Stay active in this thread, post every few days or so at least.
9. Please tell us if you're dropping out, don't just disappear.
10. If you do not obey the specs and you make a part, you must create a new one no questions asked.
11. Either make it compatible with Flash 8, or buy me CS4. You choose.
12. Use as fewer layers as you possibly can.
13. You must include a signature at the bottom right of your part

This will be my last Sketch Collab as the collab organiser, and it is entirely possible that it'll be the last Sketch Collab. So make it a good one, let's go out with a bang.

Yes, it's back! The fifth annual Sketch Collab starts now!

Check out the previous collabs: 2007, 2008(Daily 3rd), 2009 (Daily 4th), and 2010 (Daily 1st).

The idea is to create an animation that appears hand-drawn. Look at all those little doodles in the margin of your schoolbook, the random pieces of nothing much that you draw when bored, what if they could move? What would happen? THAT is what we're looking for. If you want ideas/inspiration, watch through the collabs above and see what I'm talking about.

Ok, in the past few days, either there's been a surge in interest in The Sketch Collab 2010, or someone's set up an ad bot for it, because, my earnings have shot up, and I've now got over $2. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving getting the ad impressions and the money that goes with it, but I don't want to risk getting the blame in case there is someone who's set up a bot.
There's also the possibility that it's been posted elsewhere on the internet without my knowledge, although normally it would show up on a Google search for it, and after 10 minutes on Google, I haven't found anything. So yeh, it's all good, at the moment, but if someone is using a bot, then I'd just like to ask you to not do that, because misuse of the system could get my whole thing frozen, and I could get nothing, and that's bad, mmkay?
And if it is on another website, then I wouldn't mind a link, just to see. I don't mind it being posted around, I mean, all the credits and stuff are in there anyway, so I'm not that worried about people not getting the recognition for their work. It'd just put me at ease, is all.

Ok, thanks for all the input on the last post. I think I am gonna keep the naming system after all. But anyway, there's another thing that I wanted to get a second opinion on. In the last two Sketch Collabs, the reviews have increasingly called for a theme. That's a bit of a dilemma.
The whole point of the Sketch Collab is that it's supposed to mimic random little doodles in the sketchpad come to life. Those little meaningless drawings you doodle in the margin of an exam sheet, the things you draw in the back of your Maths book, or all over an important piece of paper, except moving, that's what the whole idea of it is. That's the theme. To give it a second theme on top of that seems to defeat the whole underlying theme.

So, two questions, should the Sketch Collab have another theme on top of the one that we've had for that last four collabs, or not? And if yes, what sort of themes?

That second one's probably the most perplexing, because, well, how do put a theme on random doodles? I mean, it's ok it's one person's work, but a theme you can place over one person's imagination may not work at all on someone else's. I mean, without the theme, you get all the little, semi-connected ideas that you'd naturally see on a bored person's piece of paper, and that's what I imagine the true theme of the Sketch Collab to be, but if you put a theme, you limit it. It no longer becomes the Sketch Collab, it becomes the [theme of choice] collab, and we've already got so many of those, and that's not what I want the Sketch Collab to be.

tl;dr version: Should the Sketch Collab have another theme on top of the one that we've had for that last four collabs, or not? And if yes, what sort of themes?

Ok, I've been mulling this over, and I think I'm going to bring it to the NG general public to help me decide. You may have heard of "The Sketch Collab" recently. For those that don't know, the Sketch Collab is an annual collab, the central theme of which is to create animations reminiscent of doodles in a sketch pad, and it's taken place for the past four years now:

But next year, I'm faced with a dilemma. You see, "The Sketch Collab 2011" doesn't have the same ring to it as the others, "The Sketch Collab 08", "The Sketch Collab 2010", and I'm wondering if, for next year's collab, whether to, just for that year, ditch the "label by year" system, and call it "The Sketch Collab 5". I think that that sounds much better, but I don't know that I want to ditch the current system. So, what do you think?

Ok, my latest weird dream. I actually had this a couple of days ago, but I only got round to posting it here now.

Right, so it starts off on some random street. A kind of thin street with small shops, newsagents, sweet shops, pound stores, that kinda thing, and there's this giant snake, which is trying to eat this woman who's wriggling about, her top half kinda hidden inside of the snake. So I grab the snake, I started squeezing it to try and push the woman out, like trying to push toothpaste out of a toothpaste tube, and it works.
So, immediately after saving some woman from a snake, what do I do? I go into a newsagent, and ask to use their photocopier to make leaflets about it. Apparently, this makes sense. The next part is a bit of a blur, and suddenly I'm on the run from the law. I'm hiking across mountains with a group of people who apparently, are on the run with me. So after a bit of running from the law, with some woman police officer trailing us the whole time, but not actually seeing us, I suddenly walk into what appears to be a comic book store. And for some reason, instead of walking in the aisles like everyone else, I walk on the stacks of comics and magazines, and again, this police officer is following me, but not actually spotting me, which is odd, because I'm only a few metres away.
So to try and lose her, I jump off the comics, run across a wide street, up some steps to what appears to be a post office, and I'm about to buy something for some charity, when the officer finally catches up with me, and says "You're under arrest." I sigh in annoyance, and day "Fine. Can I take my coat off?" This coat is the same one I'd had on back on the mountains. She just says "Yeh, ok," and we walk towards the door.
And then I woke up.

So, Newgrounds, how does this compare to your dreams?

Ok, so here's my latest wierd dream.

I'm walking across a large landscape of ice, and there's this huge hole in it near by. Then, Andy, someone from my school walks by, and says "Alright?" (Just to give a little context, I don't like Andy.) He then goes ahead and jumps down the hole. Then, this blonde doctor who in the dream, I recognise as the new blonde intern who looks like Elliot. So she smiles at me, and I'm about to say hi, when she grabs me, and jumps down the hole. We fall maybe 30 metres down, and splash into the hole, and I can see the ice moving further and further away, and I can't move because new Elliot is still holding me.
She goes limp, and I'm able to swim back up through the blue waters to the ice. She must have still been holding me, because she floated up with me.
I grab the ice, and pull myself up, and then pull her, motionless, out of the water.

It then cuts to a short while later, where I'm walking down my school corridor, well, my school corridor plus "Sacred Heart" logos on the doors, and signs overhead pointing to different medical departments. It's lunchtime, and I'm walking down this corridor to the sandwich room, (actual place) where the people with packed lunches have lunch. And in my mind, is the thought or knowledge or whatever that new Elliot is dead.
So I get there, and all my friends are there, Alex, mini Alex, Josh, Shaun, and for some reason Paige is there as well, Josh asks me, "Hey, what happened?" I push a table out of the way so the set of tables we're sitting at is smaller so I can talk to them better, and I'm just about to start talking, when Paige starts on one of her "You know what I hate..." rants, and I can't get a word in edgeways.

And then I woke up, and realised I needed to post this on Newgrounds before I forgot it.

11. Only use one layer (not including signature/background layers), or put your part in a MovieClip.
12. You must include a signature at the bottom right of your part
13. NEW FOR 2010: You must start and end your part with a blank page (excluding the background).
14. Make it compatible with Flash CS3. People using Flash 8, you don't have to worry about that.

Deadline: 5th April - That's 3 months - or 92 days- so you have more than enough time to get something done.

Right, so the Sketch Collab 09 has just hit the portal, and won Daily Fourth, and I'm already thinking about the 2010 collab.

Ideas at the moment:
Each part must start and end with a black page, so that I can add a sort of, page flipping effect between each part. Limit part lengths to 15 seconds. NO TWEENS. Parts must be in a Movie Clip. Everything else is pretty much the same.

Any other thoughts for 2010?
